Do you think it's an act of kindness
throwing scraps of food to the poor
as though they were mongrel dogs
yes that and nothing more
Does it make you feel much better
you've done your good deed for the day
does it reaffirm your belief
that you are better than they
I count myself among the poor
but one thing I know for sure
although you treat me like a dog
I am nobody's cur
